Within the hallway that's narrowing itself,
I'm taken by its awe.
As I approach a bend in which the mirrors fail to show my skin,
Filth and dirty smiles,
They crowd each hanging frame.

Every wall is littered with the works of my past.
And all the portraits my life has painted.
I don't recall seeing any sort of a glare,
Coming from eyes staring through the painting.

Turning the knobs of brass,
But every door is just made of glass.

To rid myself from where I am.

This is chasing me.
This is hunting me.

They are chasing me.
They are haunting me.

All the stories that my mother read unto me as a child,
Told of admirable characters for which,
I did aspire.
And I always thought that I could paint a picture of a life like this.

Canvases, are weighing down the nails in the wall.
They carry grief and a guilty conscience.
I've realized that these aren't paintings at all.
They're but reflections of my appearance.
